Mindfulness-based Therapy

Mindfulness originated in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions of the East, and in the last century has fortunately made its way to into the ethos of the Western world. Mindfulness comes from the Pali word 'sati' which means "to remember to observe". As stated by Jon Kabat-Zinn, a pioneer of mindfulness in the west, mindfulness is "Paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally". In mindfulness-based therapy one brings this awareness to their present moment experience of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through mindfulness one can begin to study and understand the workings of their mind. By observing the body and mind from a non-judgemental stance one develops a new way of being, leading to self-acceptance, self-compassion, inner calm, control, and ultimately transformation.
