My Approach

My approach to therapy is rooted in a compassionate understanding of the human condition and the suffering we endure. I don't see people as "disordered" or "sick", I see someone who has had difficult experiences in their life. These experiences have led to coping strategies that now cause pain and suffering. I also believe that everyone has their own unique path to walk, and that deep within each of us is a source of wisdom that knows how to walk on this path.It is my belief that as a therapist I am there to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment in which I can walk beside you as we collaboratively heal old wounds, make new meaning, and re-discover the wisdom inherent in your True Self.

* It should be noted that while this process is explained in a step-by-step linear fashion, it doesn't quite happen that way. The healing and growth process is a mystery that is different for each person. A "later" stage can come before or at the same time as an "earlier" stage.  It is simply easier to explain the trajectory of healing in a step-by-step manner.

If we orient around the idea that you are coming to therapy because there are patterns -mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally- that aren't working for you, we can look further into how these patterns were formed.

Essentially, all of these patterns are the mind's best attempt at dealing with the countless difficult experiences we have had in our lives. At the center of each pattern is a core belief and its associated emotional tone that the pattern is centered around, and fueled by.

In working with me, we will collaborate on an exploration of your patterns, tracing them back to experiences in life, and uncovering the pattern's core beliefs and emotional web. With these discoveries, you will better be able to understand how you work. After seeing the truth of the situation, compassion will arise for what you have had to endure in your life.

Many older therapeutic modalities would stop here, operating under the belief that this understanding leads to change. While this change does happen, it is often the case that the deeply entrenched patterns in ones life stick around. The mind does not change simply due to cognitive understanding.

For change to occur, one must heal old wounds that are held in our mind, nervous system, and body. A large component of this healing will be done through the body, as the body holds our emotions. In order to truly heal on a deep level, we need to not only work on thoughts and beliefs, but also successfully discharge traumatic energy held in the body, helping you return to a calm and peaceful state. To do this, numerous somatic therapy techniques are used.

Once this healing begins, for change to occur, one must have mental and emotional experiences that are in opposition to the core belief and emotional tone of old patterns, allowing there to be a transformation into something new that works for you.

After old beliefs and patterns are rewritten, you will experience a new way of being in the world. Sometimes these changes are difficult. For this, continued therapy is helpful in finding ones way around this new territory. New conceptions of who you are may occur, and new meaning might be made. All of this is exciting. You are now in the position to move into the more positive realms of psychological work - ones aimed at optimizing your potential, your enjoyment, your peace, or whatever else you desire to strive for.

I can also help you in this stage of personal growth. Often this stage will coincide with spiritual exploration, seeking answers to who you really are, what the meaning of life really is, and what really IS this universe we live in. Along this spiritual exploration, there are many potential pitfalls and wrong turns. These sometimes lead to uncertain and often dark places. I can also help you with this. As a Transpersonal Psychotherapist I am trained and have a deep understanding

of the psychological perils of the Spiritual Path.

I would absolutely love to assist you on your journey!
